Principal’s Newsletter: December 2017

Dear Orozco Family:

Once a year we sit around a table and express what we are thankful for. Often, people tend to express how thankful they are for their family. If we think about it, many of us can always do a bit better with the way we invest in our own families. Some of the best investments we can do in our children is the time that we spend with them. When our children are old, they will never remember the iPhone or Xbox we invested so much to buy for them; but they will remember the day they played catch with you or the day they learned an important lesson from you.

At Orozco Academy, we do our best to involve our families. We have parent-mentors in the classrooms, a very active LSC, weekly talleres de padres, and teachers and staff that organize activities that involve the families. For example, in December we have three family events that you can attend with your children: 1) on December 1st, we have a family movie night at 3:15 (bring abuelitos too!); the students organizing this event are planning to send the proceeds of this event to benefit the victims in Puerto Rico. 2) Mr. LeMoine’s annual family puzzle event will be on December 7th at 3:30PM. Several teachers and I will be sponsoring our own teams of four; please take this opportunity to register your own family and compete in the Escape from the Pyramid event. 3) The annual Winter Show promises to be a fantastic event. We will send more details about this later on but save the date for Friday, December 22nd.

Apreciada Familia de Orozco:

Una vez al año nos sentamos alrededor de la mesa y expresamos cuán agradecidos estamos. Con frecuencia, las personas expresan cuán agradecidas están por tener sus familias. Si lo pensamos en serio, muchos de nosotros podemos hacer un poquito mejor de la manera en que invertimos en nuestras familias. Lo mejor que podemos hacer para invertir en nuestros hijos es el tiempo que estamos con ellos. Cuando nuestros hijos sean mayores, nunca se recordarán del iPhone o el Xbox que usted gastó tanto en comprarles; sin embargo, ellos sí recordarán el día en que jugaron a atrapar la pelota o recordarán el día en que aprendieron una lección de usted.

En la Academia Orozco, hacemos lo mejor posible para poder incluir a nuestras familias. Tenemos padres mentores en los salones, un LSC bien activo, talleres semanales para los padres y maestros y personal que planifican eventos para incluir a las familias. Por ejemplo, los tres siguientes eventos familiares son: 1) el 1ro de diciembre, tenemos la noche de película familiar (traiga a los abuelitos también); los estudiantes que han organizado este evento desean enviar el dinero que se recaude para ayudar a las víctimas en Puerto Rico. 2) El evento familiar anual del Sr. LeMoine –el evento de rompecabezas y laberintos humanos— es el 7 de diciembre a las 3:30PM. Varios maestros y yo estaremos adoptando a varios estudiantes en equipos de cuatro; tome esta oportunidad y forme su equipo familiar y compita junto a nosotros en el evento Escape de la pirámide. 3) El espectáculo del invierno promete ser uno de los mejores. Enviaremos más detalles más tarde pero apunte en su calendario el viernes 22 de diciembre.
