Mental Health Counseling
The Outpatient Mental Health & Wellness Programs serve children, adolescents, and adults diagnosed with a mental illness. Treatment services facilitate access to therapeutic and medical interventions for mental illnesses such as Major Depression, Bipolar Disorder; Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Schizophrenia, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, as well as those involving self-mutilation, anorexia, and bulimia. Related treatment services include: Psychiatric evaluations; Individual, family, and group counseling; Crisis Intervention; Case Management; Client-centered treatment planning; Regular medication monitoring and training; Evaluation of treatment effectiveness; and Advocacy. Substance Use Treatment for Youth
The Adolescent Substance Use Program offers adolescents between 13 and 17 years of age individual substance use counseling and case management services. Using a multidisciplinary approach, the program components address extensive drug education, coping skills training, family therapy, and emotional processing skills development. Participants also receive toxicology testing services, aftercare planning, and group counseling therapy. Prevention efforts also include early intervention within local schools, outreach via participation in area health fairs and report card pickup days, and presentations to parents and other community groups. Substance Use Treatment for Persons Using Heroin
The Opioid Maintenance Therapy (OMT) Programs offer culturally sensitive rehabilitation services and methadone to persons dependent on opiates through distinct program units in Chicago and Stone Park, Illinois. Each unit employs specific treatment approaches dependent on the population served. All OMT programs are staffed by certified Methadone counselors who meet Illinois regulatory requirements. Methadone is dispensed by Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and supervised by RNs under DEA and SAMHSA guidelines. The agency’s fully licensed OMT program services comply with the following governmental agencies, departments, and associations: Drug Enforcement Administration #RP0186482 and #RP0302733; Illinois Department of Human Services-Division of Substance Use and Recovery Services (Certification #A-0155); U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (Certifications #IL-10115-M and #IL-10147-M). Both OMT programs (Chicago and Stone Park) are CARF-accredited. In addition to methadone treatment, services include individualized assessment and treatment planning; acute psychiatric intervention in crises; medication management, treatment, and follow up; training in the appropriate use of medications; monitoring and evaluation by a Board Certified Physician; individual and group counseling; support groups; case management; support in obtaining public entitlement program benefits; advocacy; home and hospital visits; and support services referral. Program counselors also provide aftercare for persons detoxed from outpatient methadone treatment. Mental Health Treatment for the Justice Involved Youth
The Mental Health Juvenile Justice Program employs a trauma-informed, wraparound services approach to assessment and treatment counseling for justice-involved youth. Services include court advocacy, basic case management, and referrals to community supports. Staff members provide consultation to probation officers, attend court dates, make home and school visits, and provide crisis intervention for both youth and their respective family members. Drug Free
The Drug Free Program provides outpatient services to persons recovering from substance use and require continued group counseling and/or supportive networking. The program offers education on substance use and chemical dependence and works in liaison with support groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, and ALANON. Latino Youth High School
Latino Youth High School offers young persons a second chance to obtain a high school diploma. This alternative charter school incorporates a student-centered approach emphasizing individualized instruction coupled with added supports such as parenting groups for young mothers, counseling, and leadership development. Nationally recognized as a model charter school, LYHS provides a safe, respectful, gang-neutral environment to young persons attending its state-of-the-art facilities. Teen Mom Program
The Unidos Formando Un Futuro Teen Mom’s Program provides 13 to 19 year old teen girls with information and support for their new role as parents. Program goals include strategies that facilitate the development of positive parent/child relationships and improving the health and emotional wellbeing of both the child and young mom. Other goals include promoting economic self-sufficiency, self-esteem enhancement, and the delay of subsequent pregnancy. Regular home visits provide convenient access to services while also allowing observation of teen parents and their emerging skills within the natural environment. Labor and Delivery Support for Teens
The Doula Program pairs pregnant teens with a professionally trained mentor who guides each young mother during the last trimester, childbirth, and into a newborn’s first few weeks. Doula, a Greek word meaning “mothering the mother” describes the program’s chief aims, namely to help teen moms transition into parenthood, establish healthy prenatal practices, enhance the childbirth experience, and develop positive bonds with their newborns. Topics covered include nutrition, breastfeeding, labor and delivery, as well as related drug-free comfort measures. Research suggests that strong parent-child relationships are essential for a child’s stable development and later school readiness. Funded by the Ounce of Prevention Fund. Wellness Pantry
The Center’s Wellness Pantry, certified by the Greater Chicago Food Depository, and supported by additional food donors offers assistance to families experiencing hardship. Every Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., the Pantry provides low-income residents with fresh fruits and vegetables as well as dry goods and canned products. This free service provides an essential food resource for hundreds of local residents each month since 2008.
