Thank You for Making Our Día del Niño Celebration a Success!

6/2/2025

On behalf of Orozco's Bilingual Advisory Committee (BAC), Parent Advisory Council (PAC), and our amazing Parent Mentors, we would like to extend our heartfelt thank you to all the businesses and community partners who generously supported our Día del Niño celebration on April 30th.

Thanks to your kindness and contributions, we were able to bring joy and excitement to our students with snacks, paletas, piñatas, and aguinaldos. Your support truly helped make this day special for our children and created lasting memories for all who attended.

We’d also like to give a special thank you to parents for donating candy and to  Friends of Orozco (FOO) for their generous donation of bouncy houses and markers for our t-shirt activity. Your continued partnership means so much to our school community!

We are so grateful for your generosity this year and we hope to continue working together in the years to come to support the students and families of Orozco.

¡Gracias de corazón!
— Orozco’s BAC, PAC, and Parent Mentors

Orozco Academy’s New Mission and Vision: Rooted in Our Community, Focused on the Future

2/3/2025

As we step into 2025, Orozco Academy is proud to unveil a new mission and vision—one that truly reflects who we are as a school, what we value, and where we are headed. This collaborative effort, led by Principal Sovell, brought together voices from across our school community to ensure our mission and vision align with the unique strengths, diversity, and aspirations of our students, families, and staff.

At Orozco, we are more than a school—we are a vibrant learning community where academic excellence meets cultural identity. Our Gifted Bilingual program, Fine Arts and Sciences programs, and strong focus on social-emotional development create an engaging and personalized educational experience for every student.

Our New Mission: Orozco provides students with an engaging, personalized, and culturally relevant school experience through our Gifted Bilingual instruction and Fine Arts and Sciences program. This includes social-emotional resources and a wide range of extracurricular activities. Orozco works collaboratively among all community members to support students holistically and individually for college and career success.

Our Vision: Orozco students are a part of a rich mosaic in the changing world, inspired to become reflective, innovative, and compassionate leaders through our Gifted, Bilingual, and Fine Arts and Sciences learning.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the teachers, families, students, and community partners who contributed to this process. Your insights and dedication helped shape a vision that will guide us forward, ensuring that Orozco remains a place where students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Thank you for being part of our journey. We look forward to continuing this work together and seeing our students grow into the leaders of tomorrow!

Summer Learning Opportunities/Oportunidades de aprendizaje de verano

5/17/2024

Summer is around the corner! With that in mind, we want to provide students with learning opportunities. This year, we will provide a learning choice board with digital and non-digital activities. I am posting the digital learning choice board in English and Spanish now so that if you need student login information, you can contact me or your teachers before June 7th. In June, I will post an update with the non-digital activities and other summer learning occasions available in Chicago. Please reach out if you have any questions. Thank you!

¡Gracias!

Winter Recess/ Receso de invierno

11/29/2023

Now that it is getting cold I wanted to quickly address how decisions are made on recess.  CPS gives principals discretion down to 15 degrees, but to be safe I make the cut off at 20 degrees. This includes wind chill.

In addition to that, a staff member always walks the playground right before recess to determine if the conditions of the playground are sufficient for safe play.  Given that today's temperature could be below 20 degrees during recess there will be indoor recess today; the rest of the week is currently showing above 20 degrees so hopefully we can return to outdoor recess tomorrow.

If you need help getting winter clothing for your child, please message Principal Sovell on ParentSquare.

 CPS Winter Recess Policy
Article on why students need to get outdoors, even in winter.
(As long as it is safe)
