Mrs. Hernandez has been a teacher at Orozco since 1991. She grew up in the Pilsen area. She attended Cooper Elementary and when it was time for Middle school, she was so excited to be part of Orozco Academy. She graduated from Orozco Academy and was accepted into Whitney Young High school.
While she began to take introductory courses at the University of Illinois and not sure what her focus of study would be, she began to teach religious education classes at her neighborhood church, St. Adalbert. This is when she decided to become a teacher. She loved seeing the smiles on children’s faces especially when they learned or accomplished a new task. It was such a wonderful feeling. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Bilingual Education from the University of Illinois in Chicago and later went back to school to receive a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from National Louis University. Mrs. Hernandez had so many wonderful experiences growing up in the Pilsen Area. These experiences were the major influence for her to come back and teach at her neighborhood school, Orozco Academy. It was here that she has remained as a Bilingual Education teacher. She has even had the opportunity to teach some of her previous student’s children. She enjoys spending time with her son, daughter, and husband. She has a wonderful younger sister and older brother. She has a great Mom and Dad that have always supported and inspired her throughout her life. Mrs. Hernandez loves to dance, paint, travel and bowl. |
