I have been a teacher at Orozco Academy for 26 years, and in that time the Pilsen community has become my second home. I love the food, the language, and especially the kids I'm lucky enough to spend my time with every day.
I was born in Connecticut, and three months later moved to Pennsylvania where I lived until I was twenty-one. I attended Penn State University where I studied Spanish and psychology, ultimately graduating with a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education.
In 1991 I graduated college, moved to Chicago, and in the fall of that year starting teaching at Orozco Academy. One of the first things I fell in love with was teaching my students how to use their Spanish to increase their vocabulary in English. Knowing I wanted to continue teaching at Orozco I decided to get my ESL endorsement from National-Louis University.
For over fifteen years I was the computer teacher at Orozco and during that time I earned my Master’s degree in Technology in Education from National-Louis University. When I transitioned to my current role teaching 6th grade Language Arts and Social Studies I became National Board Certified in teaching English language arts to middle school students.
I am also the proud mother of three kids ages 13, 11 and 9, each of whom attends a different CPS school. We are dog lovers and have a black lab and a chihuahua. We also like to ride bikes around the city, and when we can, escape to the woods and go camping. Every year we trek back to Pennsylvania to see our family.
